In 1998, Everlast released his critically and commercially successful Whitey Ford Sings the Blues album which went platinum and launched several songs such as “What It’s Like.” Unfortunately, after releasing Whitey Ford, Everlast experienced financial hardships and a painful breakup with his girlfriend which ultimately caused him to adopt a more mature approach in life.
The album’s lead single, “What It’s Like,” an emotional collection of hard luck stories set to both acoustic and electric guitars, became a Top 40 hit. Unfortunately, in late 1997 while working on the album Everlast suffered from an almost fatal heart attack due to a congenital defect.
