Evelyne Chetrite founded Sandro Paris-based label in 1984 with an idea: creating essentials that allowed women to “dress in an eclectic mix, just like I do”. She searched for classic yet modern pieces with clean lines, flattering fits, pops of color that stood out, as well as pieces she could layer to personalize them to her personal tastes – thus birthing The Sandro girl!

Fast-forward to now and Sandro is more popular than ever. Last year, New York-based private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co acquired 65% of SMCP Group (the parent company for Sandro, Maje and Claudie Pierlot). These new owners are committed to expanding the brand in America; plans are currently underway for opening an offline flagship at Desert Hills Premium Outlets this summer as well as an online launch of Sandro in 2017.

Sandro’s future doesn’t just consist of expansion; they also aim to address environmental concerns with their Eco-Responsible collection, comprised of organic and recycled items designed to preserve natural resources and ecosystems – part of an initiative to limit fashion’s effect on planet earth and decrease waste production.

Menswear designer Paul Smith is also upending gendered stereotypes through its menswear line, which takes an androgynous approach that challenges the notion that a man cannot dress feminine. These collections boast French elegance – delicate lace dresses pair nicely with pleated trench coats or houndstooth sweaters to match oversized Kasbah totes and Flame sneaker platforms for example.
