Priceline Cashback: Every Portal's Rate, Compared

How to get Priceline cashback, step by step

  1. Open RetailMeNot's Priceline page and click through to Priceline from there. That click is what ties the order to your account, so start every Priceline order this way rather than from a bookmark or a search result. The rate as we last read it was 8%.
  2. Shop in that same tab and session. Don't leave for a coupon site and come back, and turn off any other cashback or coupon extension before you check out: the last click before the order is the one that gets credited, and another extension's click can take it.
  3. Check out in one go, using only codes RetailMeNot itself shows for Priceline. A code from somewhere else can void the cashback on many stores.
  4. Wait for it to confirm. In about 45 days the cash back lands in the RetailMeNot account as redeemable. Returning part of the order, or cancelling it, changes what gets paid.
  5. Get paid. RetailMeNot pays by: PayPal or Venmo, from the RetailMeNot account. Minimum: A minimum approved balance of $5.01 is required for a redemption. Timing: On request, once the cash back is approved in the account.

Does Priceline have its own cashback or rewards program?

Yes, Priceline VIP, a real free loyalty program confirmed directly on Priceline's own site, tiered by trips completed rather than dollars spent, plus a separate co-branded credit card with its own points system.

  • How you move up, and what it costs. "It's simple — and FREE! All you need is a Priceline account to become a member and 2 completed trips to become a VIP. Every completed trip gets you closer to the next VIP tier and even more benefits." source. There's no spend threshold either: "Nope! There are no minimum spend requirements. Your VIP status is based only on the number of completed trips associated with your account." source.
  • The four tiers, confirmed independently on TopCashback with the same thresholds. Priceline's own page names them Member, Blue (2 completed trips*), Gold (5 completed trips* or Priceline Rewards™ Visa® Card holder), and Platinum (20 completed trips*) source. TopCashback's editorial states the identical trip counts, each its own tier line rather than one sentence: "VIP Blue (2 completed trips)", "VIP Gold (5 completed trips)", and "VIP Platinum (20 completed trips)" source. "*Trips are considered complete one day after the trip concludes" source.
  • The credit card shortcut to Gold. "Priceline VIP Rewards™ Visa® Card cardholders automatically become VIP gold members upon account approval." source.
  • Status doesn't expire, but the trip count resets each year. "No. You simply maintain the same tier level from year to year until you advance. You can graduate to a new level with new qualifying trips completed after January 1st of the current year." source. And separately: "No. We only count qualifying trips from January 1st onward towards VIP status for the current year. Trips completed in previous years do not count, so keep your focus on future trips!" source.
  • A cancelled booking doesn't count, and status can't be shared outside the family feature. "We get it — plans change. Any cancelled bookings will not be counted towards your VIP progress." source. "At this time, your VIP benefits cannot be shared with multiple users and are reserved for your usage only." source.
  • VIP Family pools progress across up to five people. "With a VIP Family account, everyone can unlock bigger savings 5x faster. Each family member's booking contributes to the entire family's VIP status for both this year and next year" source. "Add up to five friends or family to your VIP Family account and supercharge your savings!" source.
  • The Visa card is a separate points system, not VIP points. TopCashback's editorial lists each earn rate as its own line: "5X points for every $1 spent on Priceline bookings", "10X points on Avis and Budget Car rentals", "2X points on gas and restaurant purchases, including delivery services", and "1X points on all other purchases", with "Redeem points for statement credits, gift cards and more" as a separate cardholder benefit source. Sign-up terms: "Once you're approved, you can earn a $150 Statement Credit if you spend $500 within the first 90 days of opening your account." source.
  • A real military discount, run through a DoD partner rather than Priceline directly. "Yes, Priceline's military discounts are offered through its partnership with American Forces Travel, the official U.S. Department of Defense leisure travel site. Eligible personnel include active military, veterans, the National Guard and Reserves, U.S. Coast Guards and qualifying Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) patrons." source.

Put together: VIP tiers are trip-count-based rather than dollar-based, the card is a separate points program with its own earn rates, and the military discount runs through a named DoD partner site rather than Priceline itself. None of it is portal cashback, so a portal click stacks with VIP tier progress, subject to the exclusions below.

What Priceline cashback stacks with

The short version: Rakuten, TopCashback and Price.com all pay, and all three treat a coupon code as risky in slightly different ways, which matters here because Priceline's own VIP Insider Coupons are themselves coupon codes. Fluz sells a generic virtual card usable anywhere Mastercard or Visa is accepted, not a Priceline-branded gift card.

LayerStacks with portal cashback?Notes
Earning VIP trip progressYesTrip credit comes from Priceline's own system; none of the three portals' terms suggest a tracked click interferes with a trip counting toward VIP status.
Redeeming a VIP Insider CouponLikely no, at Rakuten by its own blanket ruleRakuten's exclusions state plainly: "Orders placed using a coupon code are not eligible for Cash Back." source, with no carve-out for a code Priceline itself issued to a VIP member. TopCashback's own exclusion only protects codes it lists itself, "Use of a coupon code not displayed on TopCashback." source, which by the same logic would treat an Insider Coupon as unlisted and risky there too. Price.com's exclusions name "coupons" outright as a non-earning payment type source.
The VIP Rewards Visa Card, earning its own pointsYesThe card's points post from Priceline's card issuer, a separate transaction from portal tracking; none of the three portals' exclusions address simply paying with this card.
Redeeming Visa card points or a statement credit toward a bookingNo, at Price.com by namePrice.com excludes "payments made using gift cards, coupons, loyalty points, or similar offers" source. Neither Rakuten's nor TopCashback's exclusions name loyalty points specifically source source, so treat it as untested rather than safe at those two.
Booking by phoneNo, at all three portalsRakuten: bookings must be "placed on the priceline.com website and not completed through phone, another travel website, or search engine" source. TopCashback excludes "Bookings completed on the phone." source. Price.com excludes "Bookings made over the phone with assistance from a customer service representative" source. All three agree on this one.
A gift card, or the Fluz cardNo at Price.com by name; a different mechanism at FluzPrice.com's exclusions name "payments made using gift cards" directly source. Neither Rakuten's nor TopCashback's Priceline exclusions mention gift cards specifically source source. The Fluz option here isn't a Priceline-branded gift card at all: it's a generic Fluz Virtual Card, usable "Anywhere Mastercard/Visa is accepted, including online and in-store" source, funded before you reach Priceline's checkout, a separate transaction from a portal-tracked click.
A second portalNeverOnly one tracking click gets credit; the pillar guide explains why the last click wins.

Priceline cashback exclusions and what breaks tracking

All three portals exclude phone bookings and cancelled orders; each treats coupon codes differently, which matters given Priceline's own VIP program issues coupon codes to its members.

  • Rakuten's exclusions. "Cash Back is not available on taxes, insurance, experiences, any carrier/resort fees, or canceled orders. Orders placed using a coupon code are not eligible for Cash Back. All orders must be placed on the priceline.com website and not completed through phone, another travel website, or search engine." source. Special terms: "Use of coupon/promotional codes will void Cash Back. Vacation Packages will earn Cash Back on each of their individual components (hotel, car, flight)." source. Posting: "Cash Back will be added to your Rakuten account within 3 months after travel has been completed." source.
  • TopCashback's exclusions and terms. "Bookings completed on the phone. Bookings that cost less than the Cash Back value. Use of a coupon code not displayed on TopCashback." source. Terms: "Cash Back is calculated only on the item(s) price and does not include taxes, shipping or other fees. Cash Back will track to your account at $0. When you've completed your stay, the correct Cash Back value will be added. If you purchase a package, each element will be tracked individually for Cash Back." source, and "Cash Back will be awarded after the rental or stay is completed." source.
  • Price.com's exclusions. "Cash Back is not available on bookings that are cancelled, changed, or refunded (even partially), or on amounts related to taxes, government fees, or mandatory charges such as resort fees or fuel surcharges. It also does not apply to additional services like seat selection, baggage, trip protection, or transportation. Bookings made over the phone with assistance from a customer service representative, and payments made using gift cards, coupons, loyalty points, or similar offers, are also excluded." source.

What breaks tracking at any store, Priceline included (the pillar guide has the portals' own wording on each):

  • A second coupon or cashback extension that fires after the one you're earning with, so its click is the last one Priceline sees.
  • Any coupon code at all, at Rakuten by its own blanket rule, or a code not listed on the portal you're using at TopCashback.
  • Completing the booking by phone rather than on priceline.com directly, at all three portals.
  • Booking through another travel site or a search engine rather than Priceline's own checkout, at Rakuten by name.
  • Paying with a gift card, coupon or loyalty points, at Price.com by name.
  • A cancellation, change or refund, even partial, which reverses the commission the cashback was going to be paid from.

How these Priceline numbers were produced

Priceline cashback FAQ

Which portal pays the most for Priceline cashback right now?

RetailMeNot, at 8%. That's the rate a returning shopper gets, which is how the table ranks: an "up to" ceiling or a new-customer rate never takes this spot over a lower rate everyone gets.

How long does Priceline cashback take to pay out?

On a click-through portal there are two waits, one after the other: the portal has to confirm the order with Priceline, which mostly tracks Priceline's return window, and then the confirmed balance has to be paid out, which is the portal's own rule. Buying Priceline's gift card through a portal skips the first wait: that cashback is paid when the card is bought.

Is there a minimum payout?

Do Priceline's own VIP Insider Coupons void my portal cashback?

At Rakuten, treat it as void: its exclusions state a blanket rule, "Orders placed using a coupon code are not eligible for Cash Back" source, with no exception carved out for a code Priceline itself issued to a VIP member. TopCashback's rule only protects codes listed on its own site, "Use of a coupon code not displayed on TopCashback" source, which by the same reading would treat an Insider Coupon as unlisted and risky. Price.com's exclusions name "coupons" outright source. Using the VIP Insider Coupon and expecting a portal payout on the same order isn't safe at any of the three.

How many trips does it take to reach each VIP tier?

Two for Blue, five for Gold (or holding the Priceline Rewards™ Visa® Card), and twenty for Platinum, confirmed on Priceline's own page and matched independently by TopCashback's editorial with the identical counts source source. "Trips are considered complete one day after the trip concludes" source, and a cancelled booking never counts toward progress source.

Does my VIP status ever expire?

The tier itself doesn't expire, but the trip count resets: "You simply maintain the same tier level from year to year until you advance. You can graduate to a new level with new qualifying trips completed after January 1st of the current year." source. Trips from a prior year don't carry forward toward the next tier: "We only count qualifying trips from January 1st onward towards VIP status for the current year." source.

Does portal cashback still work if I book by phone?

No, at all three portals. Rakuten requires orders "placed on the priceline.com website and not completed through phone, another travel website, or search engine" source. TopCashback excludes "Bookings completed on the phone" source directly, and Price.com excludes "Bookings made over the phone with assistance from a customer service representative" source. The click has to lead straight to an online checkout at all three.

Is there a minimum booking for Priceline cashback?

None of Rakuten's, TopCashback's or Price.com's Priceline pages states a dollar minimum, though TopCashback does exclude "Bookings that cost less than the Cash Back value" source, which functions as a practical floor. Posting is slow across the board since it waits for the trip to happen: Rakuten pays out "within 3 months after travel has been completed" source, and TopCashback "after the rental or stay is completed" source. Priceline's own VIP program, separately, has no spend minimum at all: "There are no minimum spend requirements." source.
