Walmart Cashback: Every Portal's Rate, Compared

The best Walmart cashback we found is 12% at Price.com, read from Price.com's own Walmart page.

How to get Walmart cashback, step by step

  1. Open Price.com's Walmart page and click through to Walmart from there. That click is what ties the order to your account, so start every Walmart order this way rather than from a bookmark or a search result. The rate as we last read it was 12%.
  2. Shop in that same tab and session. Don't leave for a coupon site and come back, and turn off any other cashback or coupon extension before you check out: the last click before the order is the one that gets credited, and another extension's click can take it.
  3. Check out in one go, using only codes Price.com itself shows for Walmart. A code from somewhere else can void the cashback on many stores.
  4. Wait for it to confirm. Typically 30 to 90 days: pending until the retailer confirms the purchase and its return period ends. Returning part of the order, or cancelling it, changes what gets paid.
  5. Get paid. Price.com pays by: Debit card deposit, PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, gift cards, a donation to charity, or crypto. Minimum: $10 per withdrawal, with a $500 cap per withdrawal and per day. Timing: On request, once the cash back is approved.

Getting paid, portal by portal

Each portal's own help pages, as written there. The source link on each row goes to the page it came from. These are the portal's terms, not Walmart's.

Does Walmart have its own cashback or rewards program?

Yes, and it's worth understanding before you compare portals, because it's shaped differently from a percentage on your cart. Walmart's program is called Walmart Cash, and Walmart describes it as "a promotional currency available to customers with a Walmart account through certain programs offered by Walmart from time-to-time" source. The main way to earn it is item by item: "You earn Walmart Cash by claiming Manufacturer Offers for products in the app or on Walmart.com, then purchasing those items" source. Walmart's FAQ says where those offers come from, "Manufacturer Offers sourced by Ibotta", and confirms you don't need a membership: "Walmart Cash is available to all Walmart customers regardless of their Walmart+ membership status" source. So it's closer to clipping a coupon than to earning a rate: you tick "Get Walmart Cash" on a product, buy that product, and the offer's value lands in your balance once the order is delivered or picked up.

A few things about that balance are better than most store credit. It doesn't expire ("Does Walmart Cash expire? No."), there's "no Walmart Cash balance minimum to redeem in connection with purchases in Walmart stores or Walmart.com", and once you've built up $25 you can turn it into actual money at the store: "To cash out in-store, you will need a minimum of $25 Walmart Cash" source. Walmart+ members have a second way in through travel, "2% Walmart Cash on air travel and 10% Walmart Cash on everything else" booked through Walmart+ Travel source, which is the closest thing Walmart runs to a straight percentage, and it's on hotels and flights rather than paper towels.

Walmart+ itself is a membership, not a rewards program, and it's the thing most people guess first. The plan page's FAQ prices it at "Monthly: $12.95/month. Annual: $98/year. Plus applicable taxes." and the page leads with "Try 30 days of Walmart+ for just $1" source. If you're on government assistance or in college there's a cheaper door: "Qualifying government assistance recipients & college students can join for just $49/yr or $6.47/mo." source. What you get is delivery and shipping, not cash: "Get groceries & more over $35 delivered free, as fast as today" and "Free next-day & two-day shipping from Walmart.com with no order minimum needed", with the footnote that this "Excludes most Marketplace items" source. The fuel perk is "Save 10¢ per gallon at Walmart, CITGO®, Exxon™, Mobil™ & Murphy stations + get member prices on fuel at Sam's Club", with the footnote "At participating stations only. 5–10¢ in AL. T&C apply." source. None of it pays a percentage on a normal order, which matters for one reason: it means Walmart+ doesn't compete with the portals in the table, it sits underneath them.

Where Walmart does pay a percentage, it's through a credit card, and the numbers set the bar every click-through row on this page has to clear.

  • OnePay CashRewards Card. Walmart's help page lists the tiers: "Earn unlimited 5% cash back at Walmart when you are a Walmart+ member", "Earn 3% cash back at Walmart if you are not a Walmart+ member", and "Earn 1.5% cash back on all other purchases", with "No annual fee" and use "anywhere Mastercard is accepted" source. There's a small welcome bonus if you "Spend $75 or more within 30 days of account opening": "an extra $35 cash back as points" source. Points cash out as "Cash deposited into a OnePay Cash account" or a "Statement credit" source.
  • OnePay Walmart Spend Card, the fallback. If you apply and don't qualify for the CashRewards card, you "may be considered for a OnePay Walmart Spend Card", which "Can only be used at Walmart stores and Walmart.com" and "Does not include a standard cash back rewards program" source. Worth knowing before you apply, so a card with no rewards doesn't arrive as a surprise.

Put the two together and the honest picture is this: the card's Walmart tier is the number to compare the table against, card rewards stack with every portal (more on that below), and Walmart Cash is a per-item bonus you claim before checkout rather than a rate you earn on everything.

What Walmart cashback stacks with

The short version: card rewards stack with everything, deal prices stack with the click-through portals and are in fact where TopCashback pays its top tier, and a gift card of any kind, including the Fluz card and the e-gift card Walmart Cash turns into when you spend it, is a no at TopCashback and Price.com. Rakuten pays nothing on Walmart, so there's nothing on that row to stack.

LayerStacks with portal cashback?Notes
Walmart promo codesDepends where the code came fromTopCashback excludes "Use of a coupon code not displayed on TopCashback" source and Price.com excludes "unauthorized coupon codes" source, so a code from anywhere but the portal's own Walmart page costs you that portal's cashback. Rakuten's Walmart page is codes only, with no cashback to lose source. Walmart's own rules sit under all of them: "Some Marketplace sellers may offer promocodes on select items", up to "five (5) unique promo codes" per transaction, and "Unless otherwise specified, promo code offers may not be combined with other offers" source.
Rollbacks, Flash Deals and clearanceYesA sale price is still a price, and TopCashback pays on "the item(s) price" source. Its top Walmart tier is labeled "Flash Deals, Extra Savings Deals" source, so on that portal the deal pages are where the headline number actually applies. TopCashback says so itself: "you can combine any Walmart discount codes and deals promoted on this page with your Cash Back rewards for extra savings" source.
Walmart Cash, Walmart's own programEarning it, not named by Rakuten, TopCashback or Price.com; spending it, no at TopCashback and Price.comNone of the Walmart terms at Rakuten, TopCashback or Price.com mention Walmart Cash, so we don't call earning it alongside a portal click a yes. Spending it is clearer, because of how Walmart describes redemption: "For future purchases instore or online, a Walmart e-gift card is loaded" source. TopCashback excludes the "redemption of a Walmart gift card" source and Price.com excludes "purchases made using gift cards" source. So spend your Walmart Cash on orders you're not earning portal cashback on.
Walmart+ benefitsYes for the benefits, no for the feeFree shipping and delivery are Walmart's to give and nothing in the Walmart terms at Rakuten, TopCashback or Price.com turns on membership status. The fee is different: TopCashback excludes "Walmart+ Plus or Walmart+ Plus trial subscriptions" source, Price.com's page contradicts itself on it (see the exclusions below), and Walmart Cash can't pay it, since "Membership fees (Walmart+)" are on the can't-redeem list source.
OnePay CashRewards Card and other card rewardsYes, alwaysYour issuer pays on the charge and the portal pays on the tracked order; neither knows about the other. With the OnePay card as a Walmart+ member that's the card's "unlimited 5% cash back at Walmart" on top of whatever the portal pays source. On the Fluz route the card rewards land when you buy the gift card; the pillar guide covers how.
Gift cards, including the Fluz cardNo at TopCashback and Price.comTopCashback excludes "Purchase or redemption of a Walmart gift card" source and Price.com says "Cash Back is not available on purchases made using gift cards or unauthorized coupon codes" source. A Fluz Walmart card is a Walmart gift card (Fluz lists the issuer as Walmart) source, so it's one route or the other on a given order, never both. Fluz's own cashback is paid on the card purchase, before you ever reach Walmart's checkout.
Paper coupons and manufacturer offersNot both, on Walmart's sideThis one is about Walmart Cash rather than the portals: "If you use a paper coupon in-store and have also added a manufacturer offer to your account, the paper coupon will be honored, and you will not get Walmart Cash on the manufacturer offer for that item in that purchase" source. Pick whichever is worth more on that item.
A second portalNeverOnly one tracking click gets credit for an order, and TopCashback adds a rule that makes a double attempt fail outright: "To be eligible for Cash Back on all products, you must begin your purchase with an empty shopping cart" source. The pillar guide explains why the last click wins.

Walmart cashback exclusions and what breaks tracking

The thing to know before any list: the two portals showing a ceiling pay it on a narrow slice of the store, and the thing most people actually buy at Walmart, groceries, is excluded at TopCashback outright. If your Walmart order is a grocery order, read the groceries question in the FAQ first and come back to this.

  • TopCashback's tiers, and what falls off them. The page shows three Walmart tiers. The top one is labeled "Flash Deals, Extra Savings Deals" and applies to those deal pages only. The everyday departments sit on a lower tier, one long list that runs from "Stationery, Sporting Goods, Automotive" through "Toys, Seasonal, Books & Magazines, Celebration", and "Media & Gaming, Electronics" sit on the lowest source. Inside those departments, some products are carved out by name: "Excludes: Video game consoles", "Excludes: Apple products, Beats products", "Excludes: Kobo, eBooks", and the automotive tile reads "Excludes Tires" source. So a TV, a console or an iPad is either the lowest tier or nothing.
  • TopCashback's exclusions list. Anything not in a listed department is out, "including Apple and Beats products, baby consumables, baby gear, financial services, food and groceries, prepaid cards, optical products, pharmacy products, photo services, precious metals and tires" source. Then the whole of wireless: "Purchases of wireless products, including cases, miscellaneous accessories, postpaid mobile devices, power and connectivity items, prepaid wireless airtime, prepaid wireless phones, tablet accessories, unlocked and refurbished devices, wireless miscellaneous items, wrist-worn devices, prepaid wireless items, wireless accessories, digital services, signing services and wearable tech" source. Then four short lines: "Walmart+ Plus or Walmart+ Plus trial subscriptions", "Pickup orders containing grocery items", "Purchase or redemption of a Walmart gift card", and "Use of a coupon code not displayed on TopCashback" source. That grocery line is stricter than it looks: a pickup order with one grocery item in it is a pickup order containing grocery items.
  • TopCashback's terms. "Cash Back is calculated only on the item(s) price and does not include taxes, shipping or other fees." "If an item is returned or a partial refund has been issued, your Cash Back for the whole order will be declined." "Purchases made with the intention of reselling or buying in bulk are ineligible for Cash Back and may be declined." "Purchases made on sites other than Walmart's U.S. site, including sister properties such as Sam's Club, are ineligible for Cash Back." "Cash Back earned cannot exceed the total purchase amount." And if an order doesn't show up: "Should your Cash Back fail to track automatically, please submit a Missing Cash Back Claim within 100 days of your order" source. One more, printed at the top of the page for Safari users: "With this Safari browser, we cannot guarantee that your Cash Back will track for this retailer. Please use an alternative browser on your device (e.g. Chrome) to get Cash Back" source. If you're on an iPhone or a Mac, that's a real instruction, not boilerplate.
  • Price.com's cap and tiers. The page states a hard ceiling per order: "Max Cash Back Per Order: $20" source. On a big basket that cap, not the percentage, is what you'll get. Its rate table runs six tiers, "Apparel, Accessories, and Jewelry" at the top, then "Beauty", then "Home Decor, Bath & Shower, Bedding, Home Management and Furniture", then "Electronics, Toys, Seasonal, Books and Celebration", then "Stationery, Sporting Goods, Auto, Hardware, Tools, DIY and Patio", and "All Other Purchases" at the bottom at a small fraction of the top source. The exclusions line is one sentence: "Cash Back is not available on purchases made using gift cards or unauthorized coupon codes" source. Timing: "Purchases will typically show in your wallet as pending in 1 day" and "Cash Back will be added to your wallet in approximately 90 days" source.
  • Where Price.com's page disagrees with itself. Further down, its FAQ says "Price.com cash back is available on select eligible purchases, including Walmart+ subscriptions, a new user's first online pickup or delivery order, and a new user's first general merchandise order" source. That describes a different program from the six-tier table above it, and the page doesn't reconcile the two. Our table reads the rate the page displays. If you're counting on a Walmart+ fee or a first grocery order paying out there, check what the page says on the day, signed in, before you click through.
  • Rakuten. The page title is "Walmart Coupons, Promo Codes & No Cash Back" and its own description says "plus earn No Cash Back at Rakuten" source. It's a codes-and-deals page. There's no exclusions block because there's nothing to exclude, and the codes on it are the only reason to open it.
  • Fluz's card limits. Cards run "from $10–$500", are "United States only", and are "Non-refundable" and "Non-reloadable", with the useful line "Does not expire" source. Fluz prints the per-order limit on the page: "You can apply a maximum of 5 gift cards to your order at this merchant" source. The card terms printed on the page say where it works: "Use this card at any Walmart store or Sam's Club in the U.S. or Puerto Rico, or on-line at https://www.walmart.com/, Samsclub.com" source. On a return, "the funds will be refunded to a gift card with that merchant" source, so a returned Fluz-paid order comes back as Walmart credit, not cash.
  • Walmart's gift card rules, which the Fluz route inherits. "Gift Cards do not expire." "Gift Cards are not returnable or refundable." They work "at any Walmart or Sam's Club location in the U.S. or Puerto Rico, in-app, and online at Walmart Business, Walmart.com and SamsClub.com" source. What they can't buy: "Ineligible purchases include, but are not limited to, precious metals, financial products or services, and gift cards" source. Two lines that bite on the Fluz route specifically: "You may not consolidate or combine multiple Gift Cards to purchase a new Gift Card", and "Walmart does not replace lost or stolen Gift Cards" source. A Walmart card keeps its own leftover balance, so buy a $60 card for a $58 order and the $2 stays on that card until you use it. Small balances can be cashed out only where the law says so, "in the following jurisdictions: CA, CO, CT, HI, MA, ME, MO, NJ, NY, OR, PR, RI, VT, and WA" source.
  • Marketplace sellers. No portal's Walmart terms draw a Marketplace line, so we don't either. Walmart does, in three places you'll feel: "Items sold and shipped by a Marketplace seller may be returned within 30 days" against 90 for the rest source, Walmart+ shipping "Excludes most Marketplace items" source, and promo codes are seller-specific: "Verify that the item is sold by the seller offering the promo code" source. Check the "Sold by" line before you count on any of the three.
  • Returns and timing. Walmart's window: "You have 90 days after purchase or upon receipt to return most items unless noted in our exceptions" source, with shorter ones in store: "Most Consumer Electronics are returnable within 30 days. Wireless phones are returnable within 14 days." And a longer one for the holidays: "Most items purchased in-store or online from October 1 through December 31 are returnable until January 31" source. That 90 days is why the portals make you wait: TopCashback holds cashback "until the retailer's return period is over (because any items that are returned will disqualify your Cash Back)" source, and Price.com's "approximately 90 days" is the same window from the other side source. Walmart Cash reverses too: "If you earned Walmart Cash and then return the item, the Walmart Cash previously awarded will be deducted from your Walmart Cash balance", and "This may give you a negative balance" source.

What breaks tracking at any store, Walmart included (the pillar guide has the portals' own wording on each):

  • A second coupon or cashback extension that fires after the one you're earning with, so its click is the last one Walmart sees.
  • Starting on one device and finishing on another, including clicking through on a laptop and buying in the Walmart app. The click has to happen where the checkout happens.
  • Ad blockers, cookie blocking, and on TopCashback's own warning, Safari.
  • Items already in the cart before the click. TopCashback states the empty-cart rule outright on its Walmart page, and Walmart carts tend to hold last week's groceries.
  • A return, an exchange or a cancellation, which reverses the commission the cashback was going to be paid from. At TopCashback that's the whole order, not just the returned item.

How these Walmart numbers were produced

Walmart cashback FAQ

Which portal pays the most for Walmart cashback right now?

Price.com, at 12%. That's the rate a returning shopper gets, which is how the table ranks: an "up to" ceiling or a new-customer rate never takes this spot over a lower rate everyone gets.

How long does Walmart cashback take to pay out?

On a click-through portal there are two waits, one after the other: the portal has to confirm the order with Walmart, which mostly tracks Walmart's return window, and then the confirmed balance has to be paid out, which is the portal's own rule. Buying Walmart's gift card through a portal skips the first wait: that cashback is paid when the card is bought.

Is there a minimum payout?

Does Walmart cashback work in the Walmart app?

Not the click-through kind, as far as either portal says. Price.com's steps end with "Complete your purchase in the Walmart tab" source, a browser tab, and TopCashback's Walmart page doesn't mention the Walmart app at all source. The click has to happen in the browser that checks out. Rakuten has nothing to track. Fluz is the exception because it's a payment, not a click: its cards are "redeemable in-store and online" source, and Walmart's own terms say gift cards work "in-app" source. Walmart Cash lives in the app too: you can "find and claim manufacturer offers using the barcode scanner" in the app's Store mode source. So if the app is how you shop, Fluz and Walmart Cash are the two routes that fit how you actually buy.

Can I use a Walmart promo code and still get cashback?

At TopCashback, only a code from its own Walmart page: "Use of a coupon code not displayed on TopCashback" is excluded, and the page invites the stack the other way round, "combine any Walmart discount codes and deals promoted on this page with your Cash Back rewards" source. At Price.com, same shape: "unauthorized coupon codes" void it source. With Fluz, nothing on its page limits codes source, so the card and the code go in the same checkout. Walmart's rules sit under all three, and they're about Marketplace sellers, since "Some Marketplace sellers may offer promocodes on select items": "Verify that the item is sold by the seller offering the promo code", enter at most "five (5) unique promo codes" per transaction, and "If you return one or more of the Qualifying Items, the discount that was applied will be deducted from your refund" source. Walmart's page opens by saying its "Every Day Low Prices are key to saving customers money", which is a polite way of saying codes are the exception here, not the rule.

Can I get cashback on Walmart groceries?

Through TopCashback, no. "food and groceries" are in its exclusions, and so are "Pickup orders containing grocery items" source, which takes out a mixed pickup order too. Through Price.com, we can't tell you: its table doesn't name groceries, "All Other Purchases" is its bottom tier, and its FAQ mentions "a new user's first online pickup or delivery order" without saying what a second one earns source. Through Fluz, yes, because the card is a payment rather than a tracked order, and Walmart's gift card terms exclude only "precious metals, financial products or services, and gift cards" source. Delivery, pickup, in store, all fine. And Walmart Cash is built for the grocery cart: the manufacturer offers are on individual products, claimed with "Get Walmart Cash" before you buy source. If Walmart is where your groceries come from, those two are the routes that actually touch that order.

Can I get cashback on a Walmart+ membership?

Not through TopCashback, which excludes "Walmart+ Plus or Walmart+ Plus trial subscriptions" source. Price.com's FAQ says "Walmart+ subscriptions" are eligible, but its rate table on the same page doesn't list them source, so read the page signed in on the day before you count on it. Walmart Cash can't pay the fee: "Membership fees (Walmart+)" are on its can't-redeem list source. And we wouldn't buy a Fluz card for it: Walmart's gift card terms don't list membership fees as ineligible, but they don't say a card is accepted for one either, and nothing we've read confirms it. If you want the membership cheaper, the routes Walmart itself offers are the "$1" 30-day trial and the "$49/yr or $6.47/mo." plan for government assistance recipients and students source.

Is there a minimum order for Walmart cashback?

No portal states one. The limits run the other way: Price.com caps it at "Max Cash Back Per Order: $20" source, TopCashback pays on "the item(s) price" only, never "taxes, shipping or other fees" source, and a Fluz card runs "from $10–$500" with "a maximum of 5 gift cards" per order source, so a single Fluz order tops out at five cards. On Walmart's side, a promo code with a spend threshold counts the items alone: "taxes, shipping and handling, and gift wrap charges do not apply when determining the minimum purchase amount" source. Payout minimums are per portal, in the questions above.
