How to get Macy’s cashback, step by step
- Open Fluz's Macy’s page and buy a gift card for the amount of your Macy’s order. The rate as we last read it was 12%. Instant. The cashback lands in the Fluz balance when the gift card is bought.
- Pay for your Macy’s order with that gift card, the same way you'd use any Macy’s gift card.
- Buy only what you'll spend. The cashback is paid when you buy the card, and a card balance you never use is money parked at Macy’s, not savings.
- Get paid. Fluz pays by: Bank transfer (ACH), PayPal or Venmo, or spent in the app on more gift cards. Without a US bank account, PayPal or Venmo. Minimum: $15 in lifetime earnings once, then $1 per withdrawal. Timing: On request; 2 to 7 business days. Fluz charges no fee, but passes on any transfer fee it's charged.
Getting paid, portal by portal
Each portal's own help pages, as written there. The source link on each row goes to the page it came from. These are the portal's terms, not Macy’s's.
| Portal | Paid by | Minimum | Confirmation window |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fluzsource | Bank transfer (ACH), PayPal or Venmo, or spent in the app on more gift cards. Without a US bank account, PayPal or Venmo. | $15 in lifetime earnings once, then $1 per withdrawal. | Instant. The cashback lands in the Fluz balance when the gift card is bought. |

| Raisesource | Raise Cash, posted to your Raise account each time you buy a gift card. It's redeemed at checkout on Raise toward any gift card or other product Raise sells, and Raise's catalogue includes a Prepaid Mastercard. Raise doesn't offer cash distribution, bank transfers or PayPal transfers. | None to redeem; Raise applies it at your next checkout. Gift cards must be bought for at least $5, and with more than $1,000 in Raise Cash on hand you have to redeem some before earning more. | Posted to the Raise account when the gift card is bought, and rescinded if that purchase is refunded or cancelled for any reason. |

For travel and events, partners typically approve within about 3 months after the trip or event. |
| MaxRebatessource | Check or PayPal, in US dollars, and sometimes other options such as a donation to charity. | $10.00 per payment, with a $2,000.00 maximum. | Pending for 90 days to cover store return policies, cancellations and commission collection; it often takes up to 90 days for cash back to become payable, depending on the product and the merchant. |

| Hoopla Dooplasource | Check, Venmo or PayPal. | $5.00 in approved cash back per period, for PayPal, Venmo and paper checks alike. A balance under that carries over to the next period. | Usually posts within 10 days of purchase, then becomes yours after 90 days. |

| Sunshine Rewardssource | PayPal, or gift cards from time to time through the Redemption Center. | 20.00 in credits, and the account has to be at least 45 days old. Cashouts are capped at $500 a month. | Earnings should post within 10 days. Sale credits are then held: 28 days per the help page, 21 days from the date of purchase per the terms page. |
| TopCashbacksource | Bank transfer, Venmo, PayPal, gift cards, a Virtual Visa Prepaid Card or an American Express Virtual Reward Card. | None for PayPal, Venmo or bank transfer; some gift cards have one. | No fixed window. Cash back goes pending, then confirmed once the retailer reviews the order, then payable once the retailer's network is invoiced. TopCashback prints an estimated payout speed on each merchant's page. |

Does Macy's have its own cashback or rewards program?
Yes, and the free tier of it actually pays, which is rarer than it sounds. Star Rewards is the program's name. Macy's puts it this way: "Don't have a Macy's Credit Card? Join Star Rewards for free as a Bronze member and start earning rewards right away." source. What you earn is points, the points turn into Star Money, and how many points you get per dollar depends on a tier that only a Macy's credit card can raise. Alongside it sit Star Money Bonus Days, a sale-event reward called Macy's Money, and the two cards themselves. Here's each piece, and what it's worth.
- Bronze, the free tier. "Bronze: Free to join" and "Earn 1 point per $1 spent on eligible purchases" source. A point is worth a cent, so that's the "1% back in rewards (that's 1 point per $1 spent)" the benefits page prints source. It also carries "Free standard shipping on eligible orders of $39 or more" source. The catch for online orders is that Macy's has to know it's you: "Bronze members must be signed in to that macys.com account when making a purchase on macys.com to earn points." source. A guest checkout earns nothing.
- Silver, Gold and Platinum, which need the card. "A Macy's Credit Card is required to qualify for Silver, Gold, or Platinum status" source. The bands are yearly spend on that card: "Silver: $1-$499 annual Macy's Credit Card spend", "Gold: $500-$1,199 annual Macy's Credit Card spend", "Platinum: $1,200+ annual Macy's Credit Card spend" source, and "New Accounts are opened with Silver Status." source. Silver earns "Earn 2 points per $1 spent on eligible purchases", Gold "Earn 3 points per $1 spent on eligible purchases", and Platinum "Earn 5 points per $1 spent on eligible purchases, our highest rewards earning rate" source. Those numbers are for paying with the card. Pay any other way and you drop to the free rate: "Cardholders who make a Rewards Earning purchase using a form of payment other than their Account earn points at the Bronze level when checking out as a Star Rewards member." source. A tier you reach mid-year stays: "Once an Account advances to a higher Status, it will remain at that Status for the rest of the calendar year." source
- Star Money, what the points turn into. "Once a Star Rewards account accumulates 1,000 points, a $10 Star Money reward is issued." source. Then the clock starts: "Each Star Money reward is valid for 30 calendar days from issuance." and "Unused Star Money rewards are forfeited 30 calendar days after issuance, at midnight Eastern Time on the expiration date." source. It can't buy everything: "Star Money rewards may not be exchanged for cash, used to purchase Macy's Gift Cards, used for services (e.g., Beauty Box and other subscription services, restaurants, salon services, alterations, etc.), used in any department that does not use a Macy's point of sale register, used for any purchase that will be shipped outside the U.S., or used as payment on an Account." source, and in a store, "Star Money cannot be redeemed in self-checkout." source. Points from an online order arrive "Online Orders: When your order ships" source. Go a year without buying and the balance is gone: "If you fail to make a Rewards Earning Purchase during any consecutive 12-month period, Membership will become inactive and your outstanding points balance and any unused Star Money Rewards will be forfeited." source
- Star Money Bonus Days, and what they skip. "Bonus Days are available to all Star Rewards membership levels." source. The multiplier changes per event, and the exclusion list is long: "Bonus points are not awarded on purchases of: Apple products, tech watches/jewelry/accessories, tech, Macy's Backstage, Beauty Box subscriptions, Scan & Pay purchases, gift cards, furniture, mattresses, rugs, services & fees, sales tax, leased departments, third party sellers, restaurants, international orders, e-gifting, online backorders, or pre-sales." source. Macy's also keeps the calendar to itself: "Macy's is under no obligation to offer any particular number of Star Money Bonus Days or bonus point offers." source
- The Macy's Card and the Macy's American Express Card. "Already have a Macy's Credit Card? You're automatically a Star Rewards member." source. The card is the only way up from Bronze, and it's an expensive one to carry a balance on: "As of 12.16.25, the Macy's Credit Card purchase APR: variable 32.74%" source. The sign-up discount is real but capped: "20% off eligible merchandise purchases made with the card in Macy's stores, and 30% off eligible merchandise purchases on macys.com on the day you're approved, limited to a total of $100 in savings." source. The benefits page can't agree with itself on that number; its top reads "Enjoy 30% OFF on macys.com purchases today" and its footer reads "Open a Macy's Card and get 25% off today & tomorrow" source. The details page is the fine print, so plan on 30% online, 20% in store, $100 cap. The American Express version also earns away from Macy's: "Get 3 points per $1 spent on your Macy's American Express Card at restaurants." "Get 2 points per $1 spent on your Macy's American Express Card at gas stations and supermarkets." and "Macy's American Express Cardholders will receive 1 point per $1 spent on all other qualifying purchases made when using the Macy's American Express Card outside of Macy's." source. One rule that catches phone payers: "Cardholders will not accumulate points if you pay using an electronic or virtual wallet other than Macy's Pay, even if you are using a Macy's Account in an electronic or virtual wallet." source, and "Macy's Cards cannot currently be added to Apple Pay." anyway source
- Macy's Money, the sale-event reward. "Macy's Money Reward Cards are promotional rewards you earn during select events when you make qualifying purchases." source. The ladder starts at "Spend $50–$99.99 → earn $10" and tops out at "Spend $200+ → earn $40", with "Maximum: $40 in Macy's Money per transaction" source. You spend it in a window Macy's sets, "Redeem period: Dates listed on your Macy's Money Reward Card", it "Cannot be used to purchase gift cards", and the earning side excludes "Furniture, mattresses, rugs" and "Leased departments / third-party sellers" among others source. Lose it and it's gone; the cards "Are not replaceable" source.
Put together: Bronze is 1% back for signing in, paid as $10 pieces that each expire 30 days after they're issued. Platinum's 5% needs $1,200 a year charged to a store card at a 32.74% APR, and only orders paid with that card earn the card rate. Macy's Money is a bonus on top during its events, on its own calendar. The portal cashback below is the only one of these that comes back as money instead of Macy's credit.
What Macy's cashback stacks with
The short version: Star Rewards points and portal cashback stack, because Macy's pays points on the price and the portal pays on the tracked order, and none of the Macy's terms at Rakuten, TopCashback or Price.com, the three portals whose terms this page quotes, name the program as an exclusion. Rakuten says as much about the currency itself: "you can stack the offers with Star Money" source. Spending Star Money is different from earning it; Rakuten and TopCashback both pay only on the part you paid. Macy's allows one promo code per order, and at TopCashback that code has to come from its page. A price adjustment costs you the whole order's cashback at TopCashback. Buying a gift card is a no at all three; paying with one, which is what the Fluz route is, isn't named by any of the three.
| Layer | Stacks with portal cashback? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Macy's promo codes | One per order; at TopCashback, only its own | Macy's rule first: "Only one promo code can be applied per order" and "Promo codes cannot be applied to certain special promotions (like Limited Time Specials or Deal of the Day)" source. Rakuten's FAQ says the one code rides with cashback: "Your Cash Back will be tracked automatically, and you can combine it with one promo code per order." source. TopCashback excludes "Use of a coupon code not displayed on TopCashback." source, so an email code or a Star Pass entered there can cost you the cashback. Price.com's page says "Coupons optional." and its FAQ points you to its own list, "You can find active Macy's coupon codes and discount offers listed on the Price.com store page." source. Codes don't cross the store line either way: "Store coupons typically don't work online" and "Online promo codes and offers don't apply in stores" source |
| Sale prices, One Day Sales, Friends & Family, Last Act clearance | Yes | A sale price is still a price. TopCashback pays on "the item(s) price" source, whatever that price is, and Rakuten's editorial walks through the "Macy's Friends and Family Sale" and "Macy's One Day Sale" as events to shop with cashback on source. One thing to know about Last Act: "Last Act items are final sale and cannot be returned, exchanged, or price adjusted." source, which for cashback is good news, since a return is the thing that reverses it. |
| The Macy's app's extra-percent offer | No, it's the app | The app's own discount is an app-only offer, "EXTRA 25% OFF SELECT REGULAR, SALE & CLEARANCE CLOTHING & ACCESSORIES." with the line "Cannot be combined with any savings pass/coupon, extra discount or credit offer, except opening a new Macy's account." source. Rakuten, TopCashback and Price.com track a browser session, so the app discount and a portal click never land on the same order. A Fluz card works in the app, since it's a payment, not a click. |
| Star Rewards points, Bronze through Platinum | Yes | Macy's pays points on the price and the portal pays on the tracked order; neither knows about the other, and none of the Macy's terms at Rakuten, TopCashback or Price.com name the program. TopCashback's editorial sends you to join it, "Frequent Macy's shoppers should consider joining the free Macy's Star Rewards program." source. Macy's side of earning them online: "You must check-out at Macy's, Macy's Backstage or macys.com as a Star Rewards member in order to earn points." source. The card tiers only pay their rate when the card pays; see the card row. |
| Spending Star Money | Only on what you paid | Rakuten: "The portion of orders paid for using Macy's Star Dollars do not qualify for Cash Back." source, Star Dollars being an old name Macy's pages don't use. TopCashback: "If Star Money is used for a purchase, Cash Back will only be calculated on the amount paid by the member. The amount covered by Star Money will not receive Cash Back." source. Price.com's Macy's terms don't mention it source, so plan on the same. Macy's doesn't pay points on that portion either; Rewards Earning Purchases exclude "any portion of your purchase paid with Star Money" source. |
| Spending Macy's Money | Not named; expect cashback on what you paid | None of the Macy's terms at Rakuten, TopCashback or Price.com mention Macy's Money source source source; Rakuten's editorial describes the deals without saying how it treats them. Macy's books it like a gift card, "Macy's Money appears as "EGC" (Electronic Gift Card)" source, and a portal that pays on the amount you paid will see it the same way. It earns no points when you spend it: the exclusion covers "Macy's Rewards Cards (including Macy's Money, Happy Returns Cards, promotional cards, and merchandise only certificates)" source. |
| A price adjustment | Yes at Rakuten and Price.com as far as their pages go; no at TopCashback | Macy's gives you ten days: "If the price of your item drops within 10 days of your order date , you can request a price adjustment and receive a refund of the difference." and "Promotional discounts cannot be combined with a price adjustment" source. You have to ask yourself, since "Macy's does not accept third-party or app-based requests" source. That refund is a partial refund, and TopCashback's terms are explicit: "If an item is returned or a partial refund has been issued, your Cash Back for the whole order will be declined." source. Its own FAQ promotes the adjustment on the same page, "If an item drops in price within 10 days of purchase, customers can request a price match for the lower price that's advertised." source, without saying the terms above will then void the order. Rakuten's and Price.com's Macy's terms are silent on partial refunds source source. If the drop is bigger than the cashback, take the adjustment; if it isn't, don't. |
| The Macy's Card, and any other rewards card | Yes | The card's points land on the price, the portal's cashback on the tracked order, and none of the Macy's terms at Rakuten, TopCashback or Price.com name the card. It's also the payment the card tiers require; the points table is marked "When paying with Account" source. Any other card's rewards stack the same way; the pillar guide covers how. Fluz's Macy's article lists the store card among the cards to pair with its gift card, "Macy's Credit Card – Earn up to 5% back in rewards for Star Rewards members." source |
| PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Paze, Klarna | Not named by Rakuten, TopCashback or Price.com; costs the card tiers their points | None of those three portals' Macy's terms mention a payment method source source source. Macy's is where the rules are. "PayPal cannot be combined with Macy's Gift Cards." source, so PayPal and a Fluz card can't share an order. A cardholder paying through a wallet drops to the free rate, per the virtual-wallet rule quoted in the program section source. Klarna refunds may come back as store credit: "Refunds can be issued back to Klarna or to a Macy's Gift Card, depending on your selected return method." source |
| Gift cards, including the Fluz card | Buying one, no at Rakuten, TopCashback or Price.com. Paying with one, not named by any of the three | Rakuten excludes "the purchase of gift certificates" and "gift cards, corporate gift cards" source, TopCashback "Purchases of gift cards, gift certificates" source, and Price.com "Giftcards" source, all as things you buy. None says paying with one voids cashback, and we don't turn silence into a yes. Macy's mechanics: "Gift cards must be applied before entering a credit card" and "You can apply up to five (5) gift cards per online order" source. Fluz's own cashback lands when you buy the card, before Macy's sees the order, and its article describes this exact stack: "Stack your gift card with Macy's promo codes, Star Rewards offers, and credit card points for even bigger savings." and "Cashback platforms may offer additional earnings when you shop at Macy's online." source. Whether the gift-card-paid part earns Star Rewards points is the one place Macy's pages disagree; that's in the exclusions section. |
| A second portal | Never | Only one tracking click gets credit, and TopCashback makes a double attempt fail outright: "To be eligible for Cash Back on all products, you must begin your purchase with an empty shopping cart." source. The pillar guide explains why the last click wins. |
Macy's cashback exclusions and what breaks tracking
Before any list, one fact about how Macy's is built: it rents out whole departments to other companies, and Rakuten, TopCashback and Price.com exclude those departments by the tenant's name. Sneakers at Macy's are Finish Line's department, sunglasses are Sunglass Hut's, team gear is Lids', and all three leave them out. Apple, rugs and books are out too. Furniture, mattresses and third-party marketplace items aren't excluded but pay a lower rate at Rakuten and TopCashback. If your cart is a pair of Nikes and a rug, the Fluz card is the route that doesn't check what's in it.
- Rakuten's exclusions and its reduced categories. "Cash Back is not available on orders placed through macyswineshop.com, the purchase of gift certificates, Books, leased brand Items, Health/Fitness, adjustments, reorders, gift cards, corporate gift cards, orders made by Macy's employees, Rugs, Sports Fan Shop by Lids, Shoes by Finish Line, sunglasses/Sunglasses by Sunglass Hut, glasses by LensCrafters and these brands: Apple, Birkenstock, BCBG, Motherhood Maternity, Hugo Boss, Mango, Pandora, and Marc Jacobs." source. Two categories get a smaller rate than the rest of the site, "Furniture & Mattresses" and "Items shipped and sold by Marketplace (third party sellers as indicated on the product page) and Electronics" source. Its Star Money rule is quoted in the table. On getting paid: "Get paid via check or PayPal every three months, as long as you have $5 in your account." source. Its Macy's page doesn't print a missing-cashback deadline, so if an order doesn't show, file the claim as soon as you notice rather than assuming you have time.
- Where Rakuten's editorial disagrees with Macy's. Its Star Rewards table puts Bronze at "$1 to $499", Silver at "$500 to $999", Gold at "$1,000 to $2,499" and Platinum at "$2,500 or more" source. Macy's own terms have no spend band for Bronze and set the card tiers at "$1 - 499.99", "$500 - 1,199.99" and "$1,200 and up" source. Rakuten also says "Silver and Bronze members get free shipping with a $25 order." source, while Macy's gives Bronze $39 and reserves $25 for Silver paying with the card source. The terms block is what Rakuten will hold you to; the tier table doesn't match what Macy's publishes today.
- TopCashback's gate, and where the exclusions really live. Its page lists two kinds of Macy's purchase, "Online Purchases - See Exclusions" and "Marketplace, Mattresses, Furniture, Fine Jewelry Purchases", the second at a lower rate source. The exclusions: "Purchases of gift cards, gift certificates, Apple products and select brands in various departments and stores like Finish Line at Macy's. For full details, please see https://www.topcashback.com/dyn/macys-exclusions/." "Purchases made by Macy's employees." "Use of a coupon code not displayed on TopCashback." source. That linked page is where the brand names are, grouped by department, and it's worth a look before a shoe order: under "Finishline Kids:" it lists "Select Nike", "New Balance" and "Select Levi's", under "Finishline Women's:" it lists "Skechers", "Converse", "Asics", "Brooks" and "Saucony", and it goes on through "Health/Fitness:", "Lids:", "PUREBEAUTY Salon & Spa:" and "Rugs:" source. A "Select" in front of a brand means some of that brand's items are excluded and some aren't, and the page doesn't say which.
- TopCashback's terms. "Cash Back is calculated only on the item(s) price and does not include taxes, shipping or other fees." "Cash Back will track once your item(s) have been shipped." "Macy's defines marketplace purchases as products shipped and sold by third-party sellers as indicated on the product page." "Purchases made with the intention of reselling or buying in bulk are ineligible for Cash Back and may be declined." "Cash Back earned cannot exceed the total purchase amount." "To be eligible for Cash Back on all products, you must begin your purchase with an empty shopping cart." "Should your Cash Back fail to track automatically, please submit a Missing Cash Back Claim within 100 days of your order." source. The return and partial-refund line is in the table. For Safari users, the page opens with a warning: "With this Safari browser, we cannot guarantee that your Cash Back will track for this retailer. Please use an alternative browser on your device (e.g. Chrome) to get Cash Back." source. If you're on an iPhone or a Mac, that's a real instruction. Its editorial is dated "Last Updated: April 2026" source, and its tier list matches Macy's current bands.
- Price.com. Its exclusions: "Cash Back is not available for purchases of select brands across various departments or stores, including Finishline Shoes, Finishline Kids, Finishline Men's, Finishline Women's, Health/Fitness, Hugo Boss Sportswear, Lids, Mango, Marc Jacobs, Charity, Giftcards, Purebeauty Salon & Spa, Rugs, Sunglass Hut, The Fur Vault, and Books (HarperCollins, Melissa & Doug), as well as Destination Maternity." source. Most of that is the same set of leased departments the other two exclude, written out by store. Timing: "Purchases will typically show in your wallet as pending in 1 day." and "Cash Back will be added to your wallet in approximately 90 days." source. Its page prints no per-order cap for Macy's and no reduced categories, and nothing on it mentions marketplace sellers, Star Money, or coupon sources either way.
- Fluz's card limits. Cards run "from $25–$500" and are "redeemable in-store and online" source. The spec block says "Non-refundable", "Does not expire" and "Reloadable", with the issuer listed as Macy's source; Macy's own page says "Reloading gift cards is available in store only" source, so don't count on topping one up from the app. The card text Fluz prints: "This E-Gift card is redeemable only for merchandise and in-store services at Macy's, Macy's Backstage, Market by Macy's and macys.com (US only); it may not be redeemed for cash (except as required by law) or applied as payment or credit to any credit card account." and "Your macys.com E-Gift card never expires." source. On a lost card, Fluz's answer is "Please keep your card details safe and contact the Fluz support team in the Fluz app if you need assistance." source. On a return, "the funds will be refunded to a gift card with that merchant" source, so a returned Fluz-paid order comes back as Macy's credit, not cash. "Fluz does not charge any fees to purchase a gift card." source. In a store, the page's own steps are "Print out your gift card details." and then "Show your gift card to the cashier and allow them to scan it." source
- Macy's gift-card rules, which the Fluz route inherits. Online, "Gift cards must be applied before entering a credit card", "You can apply up to five (5) gift cards per online order", and "Redeemed gift cards appear as "EGC" in your order confirmation email." source. "PayPal cannot be combined with Macy's Gift Cards." source. Lost cards: "Replacement is available only with proof of purchase and only for the remaining balance shown in Macy's records." source, which on a Fluz card means the receipt is in your Fluz account, so keep it. "Macy's gift cards never expire" source. A gift-card-paid order refunds differently: "FREE RETURNS EXCLUSIONS: Gift returns or orders with different shipping & billing information or that were purchased with a Gift Card are refunded on an Easy Exchange Card, which you can use for future online or in-store purchases." source. And the card itself can't come back: "Gift cards are final sale and cannot be returned, exchanged, or price adjusted." source
- Where Macy's pages disagree on gift cards and points. The Star Rewards terms exclude, as payment, "any portion of your purchase paid with Star Money, or Macy's Rewards Cards (including Macy's Money, Happy Returns Cards, promotional cards, and merchandise only certificates)" source, and a gift card isn't on that list. The card details page adds it: points aren't earned "when redeeming Star Money, Macy's Rewards Cards, or Macy's gift cards" source. One page says a Fluz-paid order earns points and the other says it doesn't; the first is the program's own terms, the second is the credit card's details page. We can't tell you which the register follows. If you pay with a Fluz card, check your points balance after the order ships and you'll know for your own account.
- What Star Rewards points don't cover. "Rewards Earning Purchases exclude: Macy's gift cards, rugs, services (e.g., restaurants, salon services, alterations, etc.), any department that does not use a Macy's point of sale register, fees, sales tax, and any portion of your purchase paid with Star Money, or Macy's Rewards Cards (including Macy's Money, Happy Returns Cards, promotional cards, and merchandise only certificates)." source. Returns take them back: "When you return a purchase, the same calculation is used to determine the number of points that will be removed from your outstanding points balance. If, during a return, you do not have sufficient outstanding points to accommodate the returned purchase, any outstanding Star Money rewards will be reduced by 1¢ per point." source. And a missing-points claim has a window: "Members must contact us within thirty (30) days after the date the points should have been earned in accordance with Section 8." source
- Marketplace sellers. Rakuten and TopCashback both pay on them at the reduced rate, quoted above, and TopCashback's definition is the one to use: "products shipped and sold by third-party sellers as indicated on the product page" source. What a third-party listing changes on Macy's side: "Items must be returned directly to the seller within 30 days of delivery" source; price adjustments cover "Eligible Digital Third-Party Seller items" but not "Direct from Vendor items" source; Macy's Money isn't earned on "Leased departments / third-party sellers" source; and bonus points skip "third party sellers" source. Whether everyday Star Rewards points count a marketplace order isn't stated on any Macy's page we read, so check your balance after the first one.
- Returns and timing. "most items can be returned within 30 days of delivery or purchase" source. By mail, "Star Rewards members: Free return shipping" and "Non-members: $9.99 return shipping fee (plus tax) deducted from refund" source, which makes the free Bronze membership worth having on the day you return something. A return takes the cashback with it: TopCashback declines the whole order, quoted in the table, and Rakuten's Macy's page doesn't say how it handles one, so expect the same. Price.com's "approximately 90 days" source is the wait before you can spend any of it. One line on Macy's shipping page is out of date: it still reads "Effective on purchases starting October 6, 2025, most merchandise purchased at Macy's or macys.com will be accepted for return until Jan. 31, 2026." source; the return policy page's 30 days is current.
What breaks tracking at any store, Macy's included (the pillar guide has the portals' own wording on each):
- A second coupon or cashback extension that fires after the one you're earning with, so its click is the last one Macy's sees.
- Starting on one device and finishing on another, including clicking through on a laptop and buying in the Macy's app. The click has to happen where the checkout happens.
- Ad blockers, cookie blocking, and on TopCashback's own warning, Safari.
- Items already in the cart before the click. TopCashback states the empty-cart rule outright on its Macy's page.
- A promo code from somewhere other than the portal's page, which TopCashback names as an exclusion.
- A price adjustment, at TopCashback, since a partial refund declines the whole order.
- A return, an exchange or a cancellation, which reverses the commission the cashback was going to be paid from.

How these Macy’s numbers were produced
- Read directly from each portal's own merchant page, never copied from another comparison site.
- A rate we could not read is reported as unread. It is never converted into a zero, and a failed check never overwrites a previously good number.
- "Up to" and new-customer-only rates are labelled as such and are not allowed to win the top spot over a lower rate that everyone actually gets.
Macy’s cashback FAQ
Which portal pays the most for Macy’s cashback right now?
Fluz, at 12%. That's the rate a returning shopper gets, which is how the table ranks: an "up to" ceiling or a new-customer rate never takes this spot over a lower rate everyone gets.
How long does Macy’s cashback take to pay out?
On a click-through portal there are two waits, one after the other: the portal has to confirm the order with Macy’s, which mostly tracks Macy’s's return window, and then the confirmed balance has to be paid out, which is the portal's own rule. Buying Macy’s's gift card through a portal skips the first wait: that cashback is paid when the card is bought.
- Fluz: Instant. The cashback lands in the Fluz balance when the gift card is bought. Payout: On request; 2 to 7 business days. Fluz charges no fee, but passes on any transfer fee it's charged.
- BeFrugal: Verified cash back sits in the account for 30 to 90 days, set by the retailer's return policy and its payment cycle with BeFrugal. Store pages say cash back is typically available for payment 15 to 60 days after purchase. Payout: On request. Most payouts are sent on the next business day after the request.
- Raise: Posted to the Raise account when the gift card is bought, and rescinded if that purchase is refunded or cancelled for any reason. Payout: Posted on each gift-card purchase. Raise Cash expires 180 days after the day it was earned.
- Rakuten: 3 to 14 weeks for online and in-store purchases; 45 to 120 days for travel. Payout: Every three months: February 15, May 15, August 15 and November 15.
- RetailMeNot: In about 45 days the cash back lands in the RetailMeNot account as redeemable. Payout: On request, once the cash back is approved in the account.
- RebatesMe: Cash back becomes available after the 90-day return window.
- Active Junky: Orders stay pending until the partner store approves them. For travel and events, partners typically approve within about 3 months after the trip or event. Payout: On the 20th of each month, or the next business day when the 20th falls on a weekend or holiday.
- MaxRebates: Pending for 90 days to cover store return policies, cancellations and commission collection; it often takes up to 90 days for cash back to become payable, depending on the product and the merchant. Payout: On request, once the cash back is payable. A PayPal payout should arrive within 7 to 14 business days.
- Price.com: Typically 30 to 90 days: pending until the retailer confirms the purchase and its return period ends. Payout: On request, once the cash back is approved.
- Extrabux: Usually tracked within 1 to 7 days of purchase, then held through a 90-day window for returns or cancellations at most stores before it becomes available. Payout: On request. Requests are processed within 3 business days; PayPal and eGift cards typically land within 24 to 48 hours after that, ACH takes about 5 business days, and a check 1 to 2 weeks by post.
- Hoopla Doopla: Usually posts within 10 days of purchase, then becomes yours after 90 days. Payout: Every three months. Payments go out by the end of January, April, July and October to everyone who qualifies.
- Mr. Rebates: Rebates post to Pending within 1 to 3 business days of the order or ship date, then stay Pending for 90 days from the posting date before moving to Available. Payout: On request, once $10 in Available Rebates has accrued.
- chirpyest: Not available until the retailer's return period has elapsed, up to 180 days or longer from purchase. Payout: On chirpyest's current payment schedule, which its terms don't date.
- Sunshine Rewards: Earnings should post within 10 days. Sale credits are then held: 28 days per the help page, 21 days from the date of purchase per the terms page. Payout: Twice a month, on request: a cashout requested from the 1st through the 15th is paid on the 15th of the next month, and one requested from the 16th through the last day is paid on the last day of the next month.
- TopCashback: No fixed window. Cash back goes pending, then confirmed once the retailer reviews the order, then payable once the retailer's network is invoiced. TopCashback prints an estimated payout speed on each merchant's page. Payout: On request, once the cash back is payable. Adding bank, PayPal or Venmo details puts a 72-hour hold on the account first.
- CouponFollow: Pending for up to 60 days, to ensure a purchase isn't returned or refunded. Payout: Monthly: paid on the 25th to the linked PayPal account, arriving by month end; rewards earned on or after the 25th roll to the next month.
- ShopBack: Pending within 48 hours of checkout, then Confirmed once the partner store's claim time has been fulfilled: usually a few weeks for retail, after trip completion for travel. Payout: On request. Typically processed within 10 calendar days (up to 30 in some cases), with a $300 daily withdrawal limit.
- GoCashBack: It can take up to 120 days for cash back to become available. Payout: On request. A payment request is processed within 7 to 14 business days.
- MyPoints: No confirmation window we have verified. Payout: On redemption. Some rewards are delivered immediately; others may take up to 10 business days to process.

Does Macy's cashback work in the Macy's app or in a store?
Not the click-through kind, as far as the Rakuten, TopCashback and Price.com pages say. TopCashback's only app mention is a shopping tip, "For on-the-go shopping, you can download the Macy's app to your mobile device for easy access." source, not a way to earn, and its own terms need "an empty shopping cart" in the session it tracks source. Rakuten's and Price.com's Macy's terms don't mention the app or stores either way source source. The click has to happen in the browser that checks out. Fluz is the exception because it's a payment, not a click: its cards are "redeemable in-store and online" source, and in a store you "Show your gift card to the cashier and allow them to scan it." source. Star Rewards points don't care where you buy either, as long as Macy's knows it's you; in a store, Bronze members "should provide the phone number associated with their Star Rewards membership" source. So if the app or the store is how you shop, Fluz and the points are the routes that fit.
Do sneakers, sunglasses, Apple or rugs earn cashback at Macy's?
Mostly no, and the reason is who's actually selling them. Rakuten excludes "Shoes by Finish Line", "sunglasses/Sunglasses by Sunglass Hut", "glasses by LensCrafters", "Sports Fan Shop by Lids", "Rugs" and "Apple" source. TopCashback excludes "Apple products and select brands in various departments and stores like Finish Line at Macy's" source, and its exclusions page spells out the Finish Line brands, "Select Nike", "New Balance", "Skechers", "Converse", "Asics" among them source. Price.com excludes "Finishline Shoes, Finishline Kids, Finishline Men's, Finishline Women's", "Lids", "Rugs", "Sunglass Hut" source. A dress shoe or a boot that isn't sold through Finish Line should track; an athletic shoe generally won't. Star Rewards points skip rugs too: "Rewards Earning Purchases exclude: Macy's gift cards, rugs, services" source. For those items, the route is Fluz: its card is a payment, and the terms printed on it rule out nothing except cashing it out or paying a credit card bill with it source.
Can I use a promo code, a Star Pass or Star Money and still get cashback?
A promo code, yes, one per order, and at TopCashback only one from its page; its exclusion is "Use of a coupon code not displayed on TopCashback." source, while Rakuten's FAQ says "you can combine it with one promo code per order" source. A Star Pass is a coupon with its own exclusions, "Exclusions apply and are disclosed on each Star Pass." source, and since Macy's allows one code per order, it takes the promo-code slot; at TopCashback, a Star Pass isn't a code from its page. Star Money, yes on the part you paid: TopCashback's line is that cashback "will only be calculated on the amount paid by the member" source, and Rakuten's rule says the same under the old Star Dollars name source. With Fluz, nothing on its page limits codes or Star Money source, and Macy's applies gift cards before the card, so all three can land on one order.
Does a Macy's price adjustment cost me the cashback?
At TopCashback, yes, the whole order: "If an item is returned or a partial refund has been issued, your Cash Back for the whole order will be declined." source. Rakuten's and Price.com's Macy's terms don't address a partial refund source source, so at those two the adjustment should leave the cashback alone as far as their pages go, though the tracked amount may be corrected down. Macy's rules for the adjustment itself: within ten days of the order date, the lower price has to be "an advertised Macy's price", and "Promotional discounts cannot be combined with a price adjustment" source. Do the arithmetic before you call: the adjustment is worth the drop, the cashback is worth the rate on the whole order, and at TopCashback you keep one or the other.
Is the Macy's Card worth it for the points?
Not for the points alone. Silver is "Earn 2 points per $1 spent on eligible purchases" source, one point more than the free tier, and Platinum's five needs "$1,200+ annual Macy's Credit Card spend" source. Every point comes back as Star Money that expires 30 days after it's issued, so the value only exists if you shop Macy's again within the month. The APR is "variable 32.74%" source; carry a balance for two months and the interest passes what even Platinum earns on the same dollars. What the card actually buys is the sign-up discount, capped at "$100 in savings" source, Star Passes, and shipping: "Free standard shipping on eligible orders of $25 or more when using a Macy's Card" at Silver and "Free standard shipping with no minimum purchase when using a Macy's Card" at Gold and Platinum source. A portal pays on the same order with no card, and a general rewards card pays in money instead of Star Money.
Is there a minimum order for Macy's cashback?
None of Rakuten's, TopCashback's or Price.com's Macy's pages states one. TopCashback pays on "the item(s) price" only, never "taxes, shipping or other fees" source, Rakuten pays out "as long as you have $5 in your account" source, and a Fluz card starts at "$25" source. The threshold you'll feel is shipping: "All other shoppers get Free Shipping at $49." source, and Rakuten's page agrees, "Macy's offers free shipping on orders $49 or more." source. The free Bronze membership lowers it to "Free standard shipping on eligible orders of $39 or more" source, with the minimum figured before tax: "Minimum required spend excludes gift wrap charges, purchased of gift cards, and tax." source. That typo is Macy's, not ours.
